9:30---Mere Christianity, by C. S. Lewis, Room 205
Facilitated by Frank and Audrey Barton
Are there any absolutes? Can we pnt to things that are right or wrong? It is not difficult to show such things from Scripture but what if the person we are talking with does not put much credence in Scripture is there another way to present truth such that this person will be persuaded to listen? As it turns out the truth of Scripture is so sound that it can be defended by reason. C. S. Lewis is a master of arriving at the truth of Scripture by irresistible reason. And as it turns out the Truth of Scripture is defensible against the attacks of the “Enlightenment” by using the Enlightenment’s methods. Please come and join us as we look into the brilliance of C. S. Lewis’s mind and his presentations of the Truths of Scripture arrived at by reason.

9:30--“How’s the View?” Room 206
Facilitated by Rick Burnor
The world is changing rapidly, and people keep coming up with new ways to understand themselves and the world. Some interpret human history with a Marxist view, others adopt a Star Trek-like picture of humans slowly progressing to perfection. Evolutionists see human beings as having arisen purely from natural laws and chance, and post-modern relativists imagine that we make what we want of ourselves. Christians, on the other hand, have God’s own Word to turn to. Yet Christians have often uncritically accepted ideas and views that the world has created, and these need to be tested against God’s Word. Christians also want the best understanding we can have of the world view God has given us. It is also important for Christians to understand what others believe so that we can communicate the truth to them more effectively. This class, based on the Truth Project video series, explores the Christian worldview as well as several secular worldviews. It also explores several more specific parts of our culture, and offers a Biblical evaluation throughout. Never fear, we will also have plenty of time for discussion!
