ADVANCED ART
This class is for students who have successfully completed Art 3, based on their portfolio assessment and in-class performance. Advanced art students are given instruction individually and within the group. Topics include:
- Advanced Drawing–Students have further study of the human figure, drapery, Old Master drawings and techniques.
- Composition and Design–Methods employed by Renaissance artists, the Moderns, photographers, and contemporary book and magazine designers are demonstrated and discussed so students can apply them to their own work.
- Paining in Acrylic–Via demonstration, lecture, and supervised student effort, approaches to acrylic painting using different types of brushes, and palette knives on canvas boards are covered.
- Sculpture–Students will sculpt a figure, animal or architectural form using artists’ clay, wire armature, and a wooden support base. After firing, the finished sculptures will be painted with acrylics and then given a clear protective coating.
Students compile a portfolio throughout the year, which is the basis for instructor evaluation. Students should anticipate 45 minutes of preparation for every 45 minutes of class. Minimum class enrollment for Advanced Art is 6 students. Maximum class enrollment for Advanced Art is 15 students.
