ART 1
This class is for students eleven years of age and older. Art 1 students study:
- Pen-and-Ink Techniques - Students use crow quill pen nibs and India ink for various approaches to line drawing, brush and ink for the same, and ink wash for tonal effects.
- Color Theory - Students paint with watercolors exploring different applications for hues, tints, intensities, and color schemes for desired results.
- Figure Drawing - Students learn about the classical proportions of the adult head and figure, building up from a single line of action to a gesture drawing, then to contours and shading, as well as body language and facial expressions, using primarily charcoal pencil.
Students compile a portfolio throughout the year, which is the basis for instructor evaluation. Students should anticipate 45 minutes of preparation for every 45 minutes of class. Minimum class enrollment for Art 1 is 6 students. Maximum class enrollment for Art 1 is 15 students.
