STUDIO ART
This class is for students five-to-ten years of age. Studio Art students will explore the world of art, while gaining insight into how their projects relate to world cultures and historical events. Students will experience various media, and the process of bringing raw materials to life. Projects will include:
- Drawing: still life and portraits using pencils and pastels,
- Painting in realism, surrealism and impressionist styles using tempura and watercolor paints,
- printmaking,
- mixed media pieces including found art, objects of nature and photographs,
- And clay, pottery and ceramics.
Students will learn proper vocabulary, techniques and styles, as well as the visual elements of line, color, form, composition and space. Students will create artworks that excite and challenge each age group. Students will learn about the significance of art in our world and how their creations relate to art in the world around them.
The program is traditional and focuses upon acquiring genuine skills in drawing, design, painting, and technique. Beginning with basic art concepts and skills at the early level, students will progress through the program, building upon previously mastered material, and relating their growing understanding to accepted works of art. Minimum enrollment for Studio Art 1 is 6 students with a maximum class size of 12 students.
