Bethlehem Church

Bethlehem Church works with several area churches on a coalition project focused on living a life of worship every day.  The approach of “Living Worship” is to equip and enable leaders who, in turn, will impact their congregation about biblical worship.

Living Worship The first year (2003-2004) of Living Worship was made possible through a Worship Renewal Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Grand Rapids , MI , with funds provided by Lilly Endowment Inc.  This group has planned events that would:

  • Impact corporate worship by enabling leaders who will model authentic worship with integrity of heart and skillful hands.
  • Create a worship environment that speaks to our congregations of God’s majesty, glory, holiness, and sovereignty.
  • Lead our congregations to experience worship out of their relationship with Christ rather than as an event.

Worship leaders in each member church have contributed to a worship study program and have encouraged their congregation to participate in Living Worship events throughout the year:

  • Worship Celebrations
  • Insight, Impact, Innovation discussion meetings
  •  Weekend Worship Seminars for group learning and skill development.

Our studies brought us to realize that First Century Church Worship:

  • Gathered as the Incarnate Body of Christ\
  • Worshipped God, the Creator of the Universe
  • Remembered God’s Saving Deeds in Jesus Christ
  • Rehearsed God’s Covenant with His People
  • Gave their lives as a Living Sacrifice that Christ might be Glorified
  • Departed to live Christ, through the Power of the Spirit, in the world around them

If we are to return to Biblical Worship, the 21st Century Church will:

  • Gather as the Incarnate body of Christ rooted in the historical moorings of Christianity with a voice that speaks to the current local culture.
  • Create / recreate worship space and liturgical elements that communicate the awesome, creative, powerful God.
Living Worship

During the 2004-2005 season, Living Worship entered into a partnership with PowerSurge Worship Ministries, as we participated in joint projects to provide curricula for worship education.

PowerSurge is an Evangelical Not-for-Profit Global Outreach Ministry seeking to promote and enable a lifestyle of Biblically-based Worship across the Christian Church and the World.

Our theme for the 2005-2006 season is a broad-based Family Worship Initiative.
